Going ‘green’ is a minefield, there are so many eco logos and certifications out there that it’s hard to understand where to start.
‘Greenwashing’ is becoming a well-known practice used by all sorts of companies. This is the process of conveying a false impression or providing misleading information about how a company’s products support a sustainable environment.
So how on earth do you know which businesses truly care about the planet?
It’s a tricky one and requires a lot of time and effort to dig into a company’s ethics and values.
That’s why we decided to write this blog. We want to be totally upfront about how we are doing our bit for the environment, how we want to do better and what changes we want to see for a brighter, healthier future.
That’s the thing about going ‘green’ you’ve got to start somewhere and even small changes will have a huge impact when you add them together, then you can gradually make improvements.
The Poo Bag Clubs first goals in being environmentally friendly are:
- to produce plastic-free poo bags that won’t leach micro-plastics into the atmosphere and watercourse when decomposing (they happen to be home compostable too, but we understand that not everyone will want to be composting them). If you do, we’ve a blog that details the steps for you to follow which you can read here.
- have them manufactured in the UK, reducing the air miles that our bags travel and by supporting other UK businesses. That is why The Poo Bag Club currently only produces poo bags on rolls without handles. We are unable to get bags with handles manufactured in the UK at this present time…but hope to very soon! If you do require bags with handles we also stock Beco Compostable Dog Poo Bags here.
- Reduce the amount of unnecessary waste (even if it is recycled or plastic-free), if it’s not needed then why use it! We have removed the cardboard cores from our poo bags rolls – why do they exist? There is no purpose for them! All our bags are supplied in ONE box which is for storage and shipping, that’s it, one box…not one box for storage and then another box for shipping!
We know there is so much more we can do in the future and we are doing the same at our Parent Company Country Hounds which you can read about here. As we develop our lines of products this will stay top of our values and mission.
